Be on the Lookout for…

  • 🎒💻 Tuesday folders are coming home again today. There is a lot of school information as well as some work samples. Please take time to review your child’s work and discuss their successes and areas for improvement. I do NOT need these samples back, but please send the white folder back.
  • Upcoming teacher workdays are Monday, September 25th and Monday, October 9th. There is no school for students on those days.
  • 📸 Picture Day is coming up on October 4th.
  • 👩‍🏫 Parent OPEN HOUSE will be next Thursday, September 28th at 5:30pm. There will be two 25 minute sessions for parents with more than 1 classroom to visit. word-openhouse
  • 🪅🇲🇽🌮 As you may know, the next month is National Hispanic Heritage Month. Students are already reading books from countries around the world and we will dive deeper into different cultures and persons of interest. We always have an end of quarter reading celebration and I’d like to bring some fiesta vibes to it! If you are willing to contribute an item to make this a reality, I would really appreciate it. Please visit this Amazon link (the party items are at the top of this list)
  • Ms. Kensmoe sent home a letter today about the upcoming fall festival and our class basket. I am including some of that information here. 🎬🎟️😀We will be working together on our MOVIE NIGHT themed raffle basket. In order to make a fantastic basket, we need help from all of the families in the class.  We rely on your generosity to make the basket a success.  Any donation is greatly appreciated. Please see sign up genius/donations suggestion below.  Once items are collected I will take all of these items to create our class basket.  Donation Sign up geniusPlease send in your donation by Monday, October 9th. However, the sooner the better as this allows us more time to build a terrific basket.

This week in Literacy:

Beginning of the year reading benchmarks are complete, yay!

We took our first unit test Monday. It was long and challenging but I was proud of the effort and skill students put forth. 3rd grade is a challenge in SO many ways, and getting used to assessments that have many parts and are not read aloud is one of those. Thank you for keeping it positive and focused on growth at home!

This week in Math:

We are continuing to connect repeated addition and patterns to open our minds to multiplication and division concepts.  Memorization of facts is not the goal (YET…) rather, I want to ensure students know when and WHY multiplication should be used. There are tons of great resources for this skill- please check some out here in this amazing math review resource organized by skill.

This quarter in science: In 1st quarter students will focus on understanding Matter.

3.P.2 Understand the structure and properties of matter before and after they undergo a change. and 3.P.3 Recognize how energy can be transferred from one object to another.
