Be on the Lookout for…
- Wednesday folders are coming home today. Work samples will make their way home every few weeks. Please take time to review your child’s work and discuss their successes and areas for improvement. I do NOT need these samples back. Please return empty white folders.
- BOG letters/scores are in the Wed folders for parents to open. Parents, keep in mind that the BOG contains third grade standards that have not been taught yet. This test is simply a baseline for the beginning of the year. Do not panic! I will explain clearly at curriculum night too.
- Curriculum Night is TOMORROW Thurs Sept 19th. This is for parents only and will go over testing and specifics for your 3rd grader.

- Session A 5:40-6:10
- Session B (repeat of Session A) 6:20-6:50
- Would you like to be a mystery reader in our class? We would love to have parents, grandparents, or older sibling visit our class for 15-20 minutes to share a book with our class. The catch is- it’s a SECRET! Please message Mrs. Vaughan in Talking Points to set up a date and time. A common time is 11:10 (right before lunch if you wanted to stay) or 12:50 (in between recess and specials). You will give me THREE clues about yourself (2 truths and a lie) so the class can start thinking about who you are. You will choose a picture book or a chapter from a longer book to bring and share. - Upcoming teacher workdays are Fri, September 20th, Thur, October 3rd and Mon, October 14th. There is no school for students on those days.
- New Oakview Birthday Celebration Policy:
- Please do not send in food items for birthdays
- Students may share a small items with classmates such as a bookmark, pencil, sticker, etc.
- You are also invited to come in on your child’s birthday to read to the class. (Just message me so we can coordinate the day & time).
This week in Literacy:
Students are nearly finished with beginning of year reading benchmarks, yay!
We are continuing our reading about overcoming learning challenges from around the world. So far we have been to Columbia, and Chad and Afghanistan! Our new reading curriculum is a big learning challenge in itself, but students are working hard to seek evidence to prove their thoughts and answers.
Thank you for ensuring your child reads at LEAST 10 minutes a day at home. You can write their minutes at the bottom of agendas next to the day of the week.
This week in Math:
We are continuing to connect repeated addition and patterns to open our minds to multiplication and division concepts. Memorization of facts is not the goal (YET…) rather, I want to ensure students know when and WHY multiplication should be used. There are tons of great resources for this skill- please check some out here in this amazing math review resource organized by skill.
This quarter in Social Studies:
Students will learn about the structure of local, state and national government. We will create a classroom government as well and vote on a variety of real and imagined scenarios. Take time to highlight government in action when you are utilizing libraries, parks, roads, and more!
