Weekly Update 8.23.20

By In News & Updates On August 22, 2020

Happy Sunday to you all.

I am looking forward to a fun filled week of virtual learning! Please take a moment to view the schedule for week 2. Printing this for your child could be very helpful since there will be several Google Meets this week.Your child will be in the SAME small group as last week. We will have a theme for each morning meeting this week. This is OPTIONAL but could be very fun for students to participate in. Themes will be MON- Hat Day, TUE- Sports Day, WED-crazy hair day, THURS- beach day, FRI- Pajama Day.

This week Mrs. Vaughan will be visiting your child at home with the mobile book library. Please see the attached SignUp Genius to select the day that works best for you. If neither day works please dojo message me and we will make arrangements.

I am pleased to share our finalized schedule for the remainder of remote learning. This will begin week 3, August 31st. There are up to seven different times your child may be getting on a meet daily so printing this out would be wildly beneficial. Although it seems overwhelming I am confident your child will be able to do this independently within no time. I will let you know next Sunday which group your child will be in going forward so you can focus on that column of the schedule.

Now that all students are in Google Classroom, you’ll be receiving an email invite to be a guardian of that account. This will allow you to check assignments and work completion. It is always better to turn things in late than not at all. Your monitoring of the account is encouraged.

YOUR CHILD’S WORK LOAD THIS WEEK:

  • All work will be accessible through Google Classroom. When finished they must TURN IN for it to disappear from their to do list.
  • There will be daily math and reading assignments to complete asynchronously when students are not live. These will be explained and assigned and due by the end of the DAY.
  • There will also be one large Technology Quest assignment due by Thursday evening. Students will earn badges for completing tasks. This will be explained thoroughly by Mrs. V on Monday. It is crucial that students go slowly and take this seriously as it guides them through MANY tech tools they’ll need to be familiar with this year. You may want to carve out 20 minutes to look at this with your child before they submit to ensure it’s done correctly. It might also be a great tool for you to become familiar with these tools.

Be on the lookout in weeks to come to gain parental access to your child’s EPIC and Xtramath accounts. Students will learn how to use these tools this week, and soon you’ll be able to track their progress and celebrate their growth with them at home.

I appreciate your support as we navigate this setting. I already love this class and am very excited to spend the year with them.
