Be on the Lookout for…
- Tuesday Folders will not come home today but there are a couple important papers in your child’s agenda. Please read those items carefully!
- As your child may have told you, our class is publishing a book! It is being sent off to the publisher Friday. We have worked very hard and I have seen all the children swell with pride over their great product. In their agendas today, students have an order form and an envelope. If you care to order a book please do! If you do NOT wish to order a book, please still check NO and return the envelope. If our class does that we earn a FREE book from the company! Please return these forms to me ASAP! I am supposed to submit these with our manuscript Friday 🙂 Thank you for your support with this. word-published
- Report cards came home last week. Please return signed envelopes.
- Volunteers needed for our #owlsome Field Day on April 23 and April 24. Please sign up here:https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e4aa8ab23a2f94-oakview
- Reminder:Â We will be closed for Spring Break from April 15 – April 22. See you “owl” on Tuesday, April 23rd!
- Spring Conferences are coming up soon! Please visit this link to see information and reserve a time.
- MARK YOUR CALENDARS with EOG dates for your 3rd grader. The READING EOG will be Wed May 29th. The MATH EOG will be Thurs May 30th. Any makeups will be conducted in the week following. It is vital that students are at school on time, well-rested, and well-fed on these days. Thank you for your attention to this.
This week in Literacy:
We have a winner from our March Madness basketball brackets! Congrats to Connor with 91 points! 2nd place went to Katherine. They will attend the 3rd grade Pizza Lunch, date TBD to celebrate their win!
Students will again spend the week with Poetry and figurative language. They will read a lot, and write a bit, and enjoy the rhythm and flow that comes with this type of text.
We are also doing some fun and informative Lorax-themed reading and activities which connect to our plants unit and Earth Day. During The Lorax movie Friday, we will enjoy eating dirt– a delicious treat resembling humus that worms would love to live in 🙂 This will be Mrs. Vaughan’s way of celebrating all those April bday kids too! If your child canNOT watch this movie or eat this treat, please let me know so I can make other arrangements for them.
This week in Math:
This is the FINAL week of timed multiplication quizzes. Students who are happy with their progress on the mixed quizzes may stop unless they want to continue earning more toppings. PLEASE do what you can to help students learn these facts quickly.
Students are continuing telling time to the nearest minute and estimating elapsed time this week. Elasped time is a tricky concept to understand, so we teach our students to solve these problems using number lines. Please help reinforce this concept at home as you are able. A video lesson is located here🙂
Here is a parent guide for helping you and your student understand our main learning outcomes
