Weekly Update 12.10.19

By In News & Updates On December 10, 2019

Tuesday folders will not come home today. Look for FRIDAY folders this week. Full of work samples, interim reports, NCCheckIn scores, and more!

Be on the Lookout for…

  • Happy Holidays to you and yours. Our room is full of holiday cheer and we’d love to add your family Christmas card. If you are sending cards and have one to share, I’d love to display it for our class to share the joy this month!
  • Some students will take the ITBS test on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. If your child is testing, you should have returned a permission form showing consent for their participation. If you do not receive one of these forms, your child will be participating in their regular day.
  • 2nd quarter interim reports for 3rd graders will come home Friday, Dec 13th. Please sign and return them asap.
  • A few of you have asked for my wishlist. My very favorite gift truly is your family Christmas cards and handmade memos from the kids, but I have attached a link to my Favorite Things and our classroom Amazon Wish List as well 🙂
  • Students will participate in some fun holiday activities Thursday, Dec 19th. Please view this link for items (and volunteers) we need to make this fun event a great success. Thanks!
  • On Friday, Dec 20th, there is now a school day for students. We will do some academic drills and challenges early in the day, then I will be providing popcorn and juice for students to snack on while watching Home Alone-a PG rated classic that the class voted on. Please fill out this Google Form so I have your permission for your child to watch this film. word-cheer

This week in Literacy:

Students are finishing a new writing piece this week based on the book “The Best Part of Me“. This book is written by a local author and teacher! Students will focus on something special about their body that makes them strong, beautiful, or unique. Students will create a special final piece that will be frameworthy 🙂

This week in Math:

Students are wrapping up Unit 4 and will take a final test next week.  Multiplication/division has been the major focus in 2nd quarter. Memorization of facts is an expectation come January when students begin their timed quizzes!  There are tons of great resources for this skill- please check some out here in this amazing math review resource organized by skill.

This quarter in Social Studies: This quarter we will have fun exploring geography across the world and in our own region. We will study how people use their land and what causes people to change their locations.

3.G.1 Understand the earth’s patterns by using the 5 themes of geography: (location, place, human-environment interaction, movement and regions)
