Be on the Lookout for…
- Tuesday folders come home today. They include work samples and some testing information for many of our students.
- We have a new student joining us next week. His name is Yuvraj and he is joining us from Parkside Elementary.
- Is your child interested participating in the Spelling Bee? Mr. Gaudet sent out information a couple of weeks ago about the competition. We will be holding a classroom Spelling Bee in mid-December, and will determine our class representative from this. The class representative will then go on to compete at the school level. Once they are at the school level they will be competing with 1st-5th graders, so it’s not a specific grade level competition. If you would like for your child to participate please let me know! word-misspell
- Praise be for a full 5 day week! We do have some upcoming early release days on Monday December 5th and Wednesday December 21st.
- Mrs. Holland, our AIG teacher asked me to share the following information about the Explorers Program for 3rd graders in WCPSS. Here is a letter version if you prefer.
This week in Literacy:
As a class, we are reading “The Wild Robot” aloud together. Thank you to all who sent 1 (or even 2) copies for our students to read along with.
Students are writing their final pourquoi story early this week. I am so proud of their many creative efforts. In Unit 2 of our Frogs Module, students will focus on becoming good researchers by reading and rereading to find answers to questions. We will work on locating and using a variety of text features, then use new found knowledge to eventually create a research piece and Freaky Frog trading card!
This week in Math:
We are back to multiplication and division strategies in unit 4 for the next several weeks. We are reviewing the strategies used in multiplication (Number line, repeated addition, skip counting, arrays, and equal groups drawings) and will also cover unknowns and the PROPERTIES for multiplication (commutative, distributive, and associative). We will continue to solve MULTI STEP addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through number lines, arrays, visual models, and more! Multiplication/division will be the MAJOR focus on 2nd quarter. Memorization of facts is an expectation come January! May as well start prepping now!
There are tons of great resources for this skill- please check some out here in this amazing math review resource organized by skill.
This week in science: Understanding Changing States of Matter
3.P.2 Understand the structure and properties of matter before and after they undergo a change.
3.P.3 Recognize how energy can be transferred from one object to another.
