Be on the Lookout for…

  • Report Cards came home Friday. Please returned the signed envelope ASAP. If you have any questions that were not addressed in conferences please message me!
  • *The dates of the Book Fair are Monday, November 4-Wednesday, November 13.
We will also be having Spirit Week Themed dress for the duration of the Book Fair as well. Here is the remaining schedule: 11/12 Red, White, and Blue Day and 11/13 PJ Day.
I am excited to announce our first chapter book read aloud! Students were presented choices and have selected “Restart” by Gordon Korman. This is an awesome book about a boy who gets a second chance at life and can become the kind of person he wants to be. Many students may want to get their own copy to read along with. This isn’t required but is certainly motivating. This paperback book is available at Target, Amazon, and through Scholastic. Here is a link to purchase for under $6 on Amazon!

This week in Literacy:

Students began the chapter book, The Year of Miss Agnes. We will identify character traits and how these impact story events. We will also dive into point of view and main idea. Students have learned a lot about the Allakaket Alaskan region already and will continue to apply their knowledge in reading and social studies these next few weeks. Check out this awesome map which shows the actual locations mentioned in the story, and photos which display some of the topics covered in this book. Students will make one of these maps in social studies this week!! word- Alaska

Students will also write their first opinion writing piece learning to use evidence to support their claims. Be warned- their writing may be trying to convince YOU to do something!

This week in Math:

Students are working with multiplication and division strategies for the next several weeks. Starting tomorrow, students will continue with specific fact practice with the goal of fact fluency. We are reviewing the strategies used in multiplication (Number line, repeated addition, skip counting, arrays, and equal groups drawings) and will also cover unknowns and the PROPERTIES for multiplication (commutative, distributive, and associative). We will continue to solve MULTI STEP addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through number lines, arrays, visual models, and more!  Multiplication/division will be the MAJOR focus on 2nd quarter. Memorization of facts is an expectation come January! May as well start prepping now! There are tons of great resources for this skill- please check some out here in this amazing math review resource organized by skill.

This quarter in Science:

3.L.1 Understand human body systems and how they are essential for life: protection, movement, and support.
3.L.1.1 Compare the difference functions of the skeletal and muscular systems.
3.L.1.2 Explain why skin is necessary for protection and for the body to remain healthy.
