Be on the Lookout for…

  • 📸 Picture Day is TOMORROW, October 4th.  You can pay now or later.
  • There is an upcoming teacher workday this Monday, October 9th/Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day.
  • Ms. Kensmoe sent home a letter a few weeks back about the upcoming fall festival and our class basket. I am including some of that information here. 🎬🎟️😀We will be working together on our MOVIE NIGHT themed raffle basket. In order to make a fantastic basket, we need help from all of the families in the class.  We rely on your generosity to make the basket a success.  Any donation is greatly appreciated. Please see sign up genius/donations suggestion below.  Once items are collected I will take all of these items to create our class basket.  Donation Sign up genius Please send in your donation by Tuesday, October 10th. However, the sooner the better as this allows us more time to build a terrific basket.
  • 🪅🇲🇽🌮 As you may know, this next month is National Hispanic Heritage Month. Students are already reading books from countries around the world and we will dive deeper into different cultures and persons of interest. We always have an end of quarter reading celebration and I’d like to bring some fiesta vibes to it! If you are willing to contribute an item to make this a reality, I would really appreciate it. Please visit this Amazon link (the party items are at the top of this list) word-fiesta
  • 📚🕵️Would you be interested in being a mystery reader in our classroom? This is great for parents, grandparents, or maybe even high school age or older siblings. All you have to do is choose a date, and send me 3 fun facts/clues about yourself. The students will have fun trying to guess who is coming to read that day. This will be 15-20 mins at either 12:45 or 2:00 pm. You can choose a book or I can pick one for you. Please check the link here to sign up. I will post more slots in January.

This week in Literacy:

We are continuing our reading about overcoming learning challenges from around the world. This week we will wrap up the book My Librarian is a Camel to see a nonfiction text about actual traveling libraries that enrich lives of children around the world. We are also reading books about other learning challenges like attention, dyslexia, too much talking, restlessness, organization, time management, and more! At home, talk to your child about what challenges they feel they are working to overcome to be a successful student. They will build upon this in weeks to come! word-challenges

This week in Math:

This week students will finish our reading and representing data through a variety of surveys and graphs. We will also begin Unit 3 which focuses on addition and subtraction strategies. Please utilize the cheat sheets in your child’s agenda for support at home!
