Tuesday Folders are coming home today and contain a book fair flyer and information on the at home alien project (due 11/7).
Be on the Lookout for…
- Please plan to attend 3rd grade’s Curriculum Night on Tuesday, October 23rd at 6:00 in our media center. It should last about 45 minutes minutes. This session is for parents only. This will be a chance for you to interact with our curriculum, ask classroom questions, and see some of the things your 3rd grader has been working on.
- 1st quarter conferences will take place the week of October 29-Nov 2. Mark your calendars! Here is the link if you have not signed up yet.
- Our field trip to the Durham Museum of Life and Science in next Friday, Nov 2nd. If you asked to be a chaperone, you should have received an information packet last Friday in your child’s agenda. Please be sure you have been cleared through WCPSS (currently 3/10 of you are not yet cleared) and have paid your $10 chaperone fee.
- The Food Truck Rodeo last week was AWESOME!! Thank you for your support and help in making it an unforgettable day for students.
- Students now have a blue cheat sheet with all their logins and passwords to help you access these items from home. This includes: GSuite (Drive, Docs, Classroom, Drawings, etc), Education Galaxy, BrainPop, Big Universe, and Flipgrid. Students also have an EPIC! account, but that can only be utilized inside the school. Please keep this precious sheet in agendas so students always have it!
- The Carolina Hurricanes are partnering with WCPSS for a 2nd year to promote reading. With each 20 minute segment that a student reads, they log their reading on the Readvolution website (there’s a hurricane in their portal to click on).
This week in Literacy:
- Students began a new text called “About Earth” this week. It ties is wonderfully with our new science unit, and introduces lots of useful nonfiction text features.
- Students brought home instructions for at at home alien project today. They will conduct their writing and research components at school, but may do additional work at home if they desire. Aliens who can survive on their planet are due at school Wednesday, November 7. word-alien
This week in Math:
We are continuing to do a variety of addition and subtraction of methods. Some of these may NOT be familiar to you as parents so it is VERY important to use the pink sheet example in agendas. Some very helpful parent links to what we are doing can be found here: Place Value Addition Show All Totals/Partial Sums Addition on a # Line Place Value Subtraction Subtraction on a Number Line
I am noticing some major gaps in what students SHOULD know, so please look over assignments with them to ensure they understand. If frustration levels are reached, write me a note or send me an email. I want to address it asap!
