Weekly Update 10.2.18
By carrievaughan In News & Updates On October 2, 2018
Tuesday Folders are coming home today and contain school paperwork and information. Student work samples AND 1st quarter interim reports will come home as well!
Be on the Lookout for…
- Mark your calendar and please plan to attend 3rd grade’s Curriculum Night on Tuesday, October 23rd at 6:00 in our media center. It should last about 45 minutes minutes. This session is for parents only. This will be a chance for you to interact with our curriculum, ask classroom questions, and see some of the things your 3rd grader has been working on.
- School Picture Day will be TOMORROW Wed, Oct 3rd. Please see Tuesday Folders (last week) for order information.
- Field trip details and payment information came home in a packet last week. Please take your time and read carefully. Make sure all necessary forms are completely filled out. Money will be collected October 2nd-25th. The online school payment (OSP) system is HIGHLY encouraged so large amounts of money is not in the hands of children and I am not using instructional time to receipt money. All paperwork should be returned ASAP. We are accepting unlimited chaperones for our 1st trip to the Science Museum on November 2nd, however you must be a registered WCPSS volunteer which you can do in person at the Oakview office and you will pay a $10 chaperone fee on OSP (our secretary is currently working on getting that in the system). If you are interested in chaperoning a student group, please dojo Mrs. Vaughan and let her know. If you cannot locate the field trip packet, please let me know ASAP and I can send another!
- A hard copy flyer comes home today, but please mark your calendars and fill out the Google RSVP form for our Food Truck Rodeo on October 17th! This is a very exciting event! We do need to limit 2 guests per child for time and space reasons 🙂 Let me know if you have any questions! word-food truck rodeo
This week in Literacy:
- We are also learning about characters- their traits and motivation, and how their actions impact the story. Students will practice telling basic story elements and answering right there questions.
- Students are also starting their Food Truck Business Plans and preparing for the rodeo on October 17th!
This week in Math:
We are doing a variety of addition and subtraction of methods. Some of these may NOT be familiar to you as parents so it is VERY important to use the example coming home from what students did that day. Some very helpful parent links to what we are doing can be found here: Place Value Addition Show All Totals/Partial Sums Addition on a # Line Place Value Subtraction Subtraction on a Number Line
I am noticing some major gaps in what students SHOULD know, so please look over assignments with them to ensure they understand. If frustration levels are reached, write me a note or send me an email. I want to address it asap!
A year long “Scope and Sequence” which lays out our math curriculum pacing for the year can be found here
