Tuesday Folders are coming home today and contain a few different pieces of school paperwork
Be on the Lookout for…
- 3rd grade students took the Beginning of Grade (BOG) assessment recently. This is a reading test which shows what students already know, sets a benchmark to measure growth against this year, and serves as a Read to Achieve exemption if students score high enough. It does not go on the report card. Score reports on this assessment are coming home today. I will go over these results, and all of our beginning of the year results at 1st quarter conferences in October, but if you have questions before then please let me know.
- Fall parent teacher conferences will take place mid-late October. Sign up for these here! At these conferences we will take a personalized look at your child’s performance and any assessment results. For most of you, this will be a good time because it’s just prior to 1st quarter report cards. If you feel you require a conference prior to this date, please dojo or email me your concerns and what meeting times could work for you.
- Mark your calendar and please plan to attend 3rd grade’s Curriculum Night on Tuesday, October 8th at 6:00 in our media center. It should last 30-45 minutes. This session is for parents only. This will be a chance for you to hear about 3rd grade testing and expectations and interact with our curriculum.
- School Picture Day will be Wed, Oct 2nd. Please return picture backdrop selection sheets that came home last week.
- Please return all field trip paperwork and money ASAP! These were due September 30th. We are accepting unlimited chaperones for our 1st trip to the Science Museum on October 30th, however you must be a registered WCPSS volunteer which you can do in person at the Oakview office. If you are interested in chaperoning a student group, please dojo Mrs. Vaughan and let her know. You will need to pay the $10 entrance fee at the museum that day.
- Mark your calendars and please make plans to attend our student Food Truck Rodeo on Friday, October 18th! A information sheet is in folders today. This great project includes entrepreneurship, creativity, buying and selling, trophies, fake food trucks AND real ones! Please look at what time your child will present and block off a few hours of your late morning/early afternoon to join in the learning and lunch! word-food trucks
- We are in need of paper towel and toilet paper rolls (not the paper, just the roll left behind) for our food truck crafts. Please save these and send in!!
This week in Literacy:
- We will look at Main Idea this week with a focus on how to tell the difference between details and the larger main idea these details support. We are learning about characters- their traits and motivation, and how their actions impact the story. Students will practice telling basic story elements and answering right there questions.
- Students are also starting their Food Truck Business Plans and preparing for the rodeo on October 18th!
This week in Math:
We are doing a variety of addition and subtraction of methods. Some of these may NOT be familiar to you as parents so it is VERY important to use the example coming home from what students did that day. Some very helpful parent links to what we are doing can be found here: Place Value Addition Show All Totals/Partial Sums Addition on a # Line Place Value Subtraction Subtraction on a Number Line
I am noticing some major gaps in what students SHOULD know, so please look over assignments with them to ensure they understand. If frustration levels are reached, write me a note or send me an email. I want to address it asap!
