Weekly Update 1.7.20

By In News & Updates On January 7, 2020

Be on the Lookout for…

  • Tuesday Folders are coming home today. They include work samples and a note about our multiplication quizzes. Please review work and return folders.
  • In folders today you will also find a video consent form. I am renewing my National Boards certification this year and part of that process is a 10 minute video recording of my teaching. There is more information in folders, but I’d really appreciate these returned forms by Friday the 10th. Let me know of any questions you may have!

This week in Literacy:

Students will undergo the new Istation midyear benchmark assessments for the TRC, Dibels, and Daze measures this week. A long information sheet came home before the break explaining this new process. Students will complete these online components this Friday morning. Please let me know if your child will not be here. Results will be shared with you ASAP.

In writing, we are focusing on informational biographies. Students will work on how to do research, then choose a famous person to focus on for the upcoming student Famous Person Teaparty on Tuesday, January 28th. They will complete research and digital projects in class, but feel free to let the fun continue at home. Students will be expected to look and act like the person they have chosen, so please do what you can to help with this. Please DO NOT spend a bunch of money on this. Handmade or re-purposed items to resemble their person are plenty. The focus will be on their mannerisms and research! The Ducksters site and the Brainpop site will be our primary resources if you want to access from home. This event is for students only, but I will take lots of pictures and all paper and digital products will be saved on Google Drive so you can share with loved ones. Please visit this link to help make this an unforgettable morning. word-teaparty

This week in Math:

Timed multiplication quizzes begin next week!! Your child should have an icecream sundae sheet in their agenda to keep track of their successes with these 1 minute timed quizzes. There are 16 questions on each quiz and students pass with a 15/16 or better. If they do NOT pass, there will be a makeup opportunity each Friday during arrival. All quizzes will come home the day they are taken and will be located inside the plastic X sundae page. Please do what you can to help prepare your child for these fun and important assessments!

Students will be working with geometry vocabulary and concepts over these next 2 weeks. This topic is fun but vocabulary is KEY to understanding. For this reason, students will keep a geometry cheat sheet inside their agendas. For homework this week in math, they will need to shuffle and rematch vocab words daily. Please help however you can with this.

This quarter in Science:  Landforms and Water Features.

3.E.2.1 Compare Earth’s saltwater and freshwater features (including oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, ponds, streams, and glaciers). 3.E.2.2 Compare Earth’s land features (including volcanoes, mountains, valleys, canyons, caverns, and islands) by using models, pictures, diagrams, and maps.
