Be on the Lookout for…
- Wow! 1 quarter down and 3 to go! I’m so proud of all the growth and learning that has already taken place this year. Our class is truly #owlsome and we have a lot of fun things ahead!
- You should have had scheduled or had your 1st quarter conference with Mrs. Vaughan at this point. If you need to schedule or reschedule this, please dojo me asap.
- At home alien projects are due TOMORROW 11/7. Information on this came home over 2 weeks ago, but if you need assistance you can find information here. Please make sure this is STUDENT work and they can explain what they did and why they designed their alien in that way.
- Report cards will come home this Friday 11/9. word-report card
This week in Literacy:
Tomorrow, students will begin reading an informational text called “The Athabascans: Old and New Ways” to identify text features and main ideas. Students will read and reread to answer surface level and deeper thinking questions about their reading. This sets a lot of great background knowledge for our next chapter book.
Students will finalize their Planet Google slide illustrating all their research findings in an attractive, organized, engaging presentation. They will use class time to work on these, but students often want to carry their learning outside the classroom walls, so I am fine with them adding to and tweaking their presentations at home as long as it’s their work:)
This week in Math:
Earlier this week, students took the NCCheckIn test for math on all 1st quarter objectives. Results will be shared with you soon.
Students are coming back to multiplication starting tomorrow. We are reviewing the strategies used in multiplication (Number line, repeated addition, skip counting, arrays, and equal groups drawings) and will also cover unknowns and the PROPERTIES for multiplication (commutative, distributive, and associative). We will continue to solve MULTI STEP addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through number lines, arrays, visual models, and more! Multiplication/division will be the MAJOR focus on 2nd quarter. Memorization of facts is not the goal (YET…) rather, I want to ensure students know when and WHY multiplication should be used. There are tons of great resources for this skill- please check some out here in this amazing math review resource organized by skill.
This quarter in Science:
