Be on the Lookout for…
- White folders will come home FRIDAY this week and include 1st quarter interim reports. Parents, please know all of these standards are still in progress so a grade of 1 or 2 does not mean panic! There is a small sampling thus far and students still have many opportunities to show proficiency.
- Picture Day and our school book fair are coming up soon. Please view contents in folders on Friday.
- Would you like to be a mystery reader in our class? We would love to have parents, grandparents, or older sibling visit our class for 15-20 minutes to share a book with our class. The catch is- it’s a SECRET! Please message Mrs. Vaughan in Talking Points to set up a date and time. A common time is 11:10 (right before lunch if you wanted to stay) or 12:50 (in between recess and specials). You will give me THREE clues about yourself (2 truths and a lie) so the class can start thinking about who you are. You will choose a picture book or a chapter from a longer book to bring and share. I look forward to beginning soon!
- On Monday our class held a City Council meeting for the town of CVC in deciding whether our not our town would allow a waterslide park to be built on the reservoir. Please open the folder here to view the council meeting and see the final decision! word-waterslides
- Upcoming teacher workdays are Monday October 13th (Indigenous Peoples Day) and Monday, October 20th (Happy Diwali). There is no school for students on those days.
This week in Literacy:
We are continuing our reading about overcoming learning challenges from around the world. This week we explore My Librarian is a Camel to see a nonfiction text about actual traveling libraries that enrich lives of children around the world.
Thank you for ensuring your child reads at LEAST 10 minutes a day at home. You can write their minutes at the bottom of agendas next to the day of the week.
Our class is reading the book Holes by Louis Sachar as a class. Feel free to send in a copy of the book if your child would like to read along. Please help me by NOT allowing them to watch the movie until after we finish the book! The movie is good, but the book is better and I want their recall clear!
This week in Math:
This week students finished our 1st unit of multiplication and division strategies. We will begin reading and representing data through a variety of surveys and graphs.
This quarter in Social Studies:
Students will finish the unit about the structure of local, state and national government. We will create a classroom government as well and vote on a variety of real and imagined scenarios. Take time to highlight government in action when you are utilizing libraries, parks, roads, and more!
