Be on the Lookout for…
- Please make sure you have returned your child’s signed interim report that came home last Friday.
- Thurs March 4th students will take the NCCheckIns for math. This was rescheduled due to inclement weather last week. This is not part of their grade but does give good data on how your child is doing on math standards covered since the beginning of this school year. These will be done online so all children will need to bring their device to school with them.
- Please make sure your child has returned all their learning materials to school. This includes ANY books, notebooks, their art supplies/pencil pouch, etc. The whiteboard/marker can remain at home for asynchronous days. They should also bring a their device, a DAILY snack, refillable water bottle, and a spare mask (in case the first gets wet, dirty, lost).
This week in Literacy:
Students started the book “Restart” in read aloud this week. Please help ensure this book stays at school so it’s available to your child each day!
We will wrap up a focus on fables, figurative language, and idioms in literature this week. We have had fun reading Amelia Bedelia and dissecting what she thinks phases mean and what they are intended to mean! Next week we shift to nonfiction. word-AmeliaBedelia
This week in Math:
Students are continuing a lengthy, but exciting Fractions unit. Lots of vocab is important in understanding this concept. Here is a parent guide for helping you and your student understand our main learning outcomes
Current vocab: numerator, denominator, unit fraction, partition, number line, visual model
TIMED MULTIPLICATION QUIZZES: will continue this week with 4’s. We have previously done 1’s and 2’s. The expectation now is that student complete a 16 question quiz with 15/16 or better accuracy within 90 seconds. This will be done paper and pencil version Friday morning. Students will prepare for this by practicing throughout the week using activities from their math board.
This week in Science/Social Studies:
- 3.H.1 Understand how events, individuals and ideas have influenced the history of local and regional communities.
- 3.H.2 Use historical thinking skills to understand the context of events, people and places.
- 3.C.1 Understand how diverse cultures are visible in local and regional communities.
