Weekly Update 5.8.18

By In News & Updates On May 8, 2018

Be on the Lookout for…

  • Field “Day” will be during our specials time tomorrow. Students should wear PE gear and may bring water bottles. No change of clothes needed.
  • Wed, May 16th is now a teacher workday. I realize this came as an inconvenience for many of you and truly do sympathize with the childcare struggle. My son will be with me rallying with hopefully thousands of teachers in downtown Raleigh that day. If you are able, we would love for you to join us! I think it’s pretty cool how this came on the heels of our “Brave Girl” story where we learned about how Clara Lemlich led a mass strike and changed the world for good. It’s also neat for our kids to see their voice in government in action!
  • Students are bringing 4th quarter interim reports home today in their agendas. Please review, sign, and return.
  • Student-led parent-teacher conferences will be held the week of May 21-25th. Students will spend time reflecting on their work from the whole year, goal setting for EOG’s and 4th grade, and sharing some of their favorite pieces. Please plan for at least 1 parent to attend, free of siblings if possible so the focus can remain on your 3rd grader. Sign up slots are listed here. Please RSVP 🙂
  • EOG Dates! These are right before and right after Memorial Day, which I know is inconvenient but unavoidable this year. It is SOOOOOOO important your child is present for the test so they can take it with ME, in THEIR classroom, in an environment they are familiar with. If they are late or absent, these conditions cannot be guaranteed. Friday, May 25th Grade 3 Reading and Tuesday, May 29th Grade 3 Math
  • Students were asked to bring a blanket or towel to use for outdoor reading as we attempt to build our reading stamina and soak up the sun this month. Please send one in to keep at school asap!
  • Last week of school fun and celebration information is here! I sent through dojo and as hard copies. Students have selected “Emoji Day” for the last day of school. We will participate in plays and dress as emojis.

This week in Literacy:

Students are heading into our last major unit of our reading for this year. Students will revisit the concept of government through 3 texts related to the subject. We will also spend a good deal of our reading and writing time beginning to review for the big ole test at the end of this month! I don’t want to overload anyone with copies and tasks, so Please email me to request any additional test materials you’d like to work on from home.

Students will have a mock EOG exam Wed May 9th and Fri May 11th. These simulation tests will take about 1.5 hours and give students a glimpse into what the actual exams later this month will be like. Tests will be checked for accuracy and sent home for you to review with your child 🙂 word- EOGreview

This week in Math:
