By In News & Updates On February 27, 2024

Be on the Lookout…

  • Tuesday folders come home today. Please review work samples.
  • 3rd quarter interim reports will come home this Friday.
  • From now on, timed multiplication quizzes will be WEDNESDAYS with makeups on Fri. Please reference the small slip in your child’s Tuesday folder showing which facts they have mastered and what they are still working on. They have until our icecream celebration on Thurs, Mar 21st to reach their goal. A signup sheet to help make this happen is coming soon.
  • On Tuesday April 9th. We will be visiting the Museum of Natural Science and Museum of History in downtown Raleigh. The best  part (other than getting 2 museums in 1 trip, is that the cost is only $6!). Please send payments and permission forms in ASAP. If you would like to be a chaperone (we will need many), please send Mrs. Vaughan a message in Talking Points stating so.

This week in Literacy:

Students will have a new reading incentive FRIDAY in their agendas. Please be on the lookout for:
1) Reading passport- Students have until April 1st (day after spring break) to “Read Across America”. Each 20 minutes of reading equals a new state stamped by me in class on their passport. If they reach the goal of 1000 minutes by the deadline, they will be invited to an afterschool Luau to celebrate their reading stamina! All YOU have to do parents is acknowledge the reading titles and minutes each night at the bottom of agendas. Students are of course encouraged to read over weekends too:) This is meant to be fun; please be sure your child isn’t stressing and staying up until midnight reading! Thank you for supporting your child as we push them to be voracious readers with improved reading stamina! word-HawaiiOrBust

All month we will explore Black History Month where I will introduce our children to a new person or two each day who represents people of color who have made significant contributions to our world. I hope this may create some great conversations at home! Some of the resources we will use are digital books that can be accessed between 7am-3pm. Feel free to use at home as able. BHM art gallery and BHM book library

In Module 3 we will focus on reading classic chapter books. As a class will will dive deep into Peter Pan by JM Barrie and use this text to explore text dependent questions, character traits, point of view, theme, and more! Please check for any classics you can get your hands on to share at home. A list of some great classics can be found here.

This week in Math:

Students are continuing a lengthy, but exciting Fractions unit. Lots of vocab is important in understanding this concept. Here is a parent guide for helping you and your student understand our main learning outcomes

Current vocab: numerator, denominator, unit fraction, partition, number line, visual model
