Be on the Lookout for…
- There were no school forms, so Tuesday folders will not come home today. Look for a full folder next week!
- Mrs. Vaughan will be at the WCPSS Fall Convergence Symposium Tues and Wed of this week. I cannot wait to bring back all the wonderful ideas and technology tools I learn about!
- Reminder: there is an early release day this Friday, Dec 2. Students will be released at 1:15.
- Did you know your child has their own google email account? Did you know they created and maintain their own Google Drive? Ask them to log in and show you their most recent writing sample about a turkey pleading for it’s life. We used a program called Chatterpix and I think you will love it! word- chatterpix
This week in Literacy:
This week, we are finishing our chapter book “The Year of Miss. Agnes”. We aim to have a deep understanding of how character actions affect the story, and understand the main idea of what we read each day.
Spelling RETESTS on the “100 Words You Need to Know” begin this FRIDAY, December 2nd. This quiz is for GROUP ONE words ONLY! Only students who missed words the first time around need to prepare to restest. If you are not sure, check your child’s agenda for circled words.
This week in Math:
Students are continuing to connect addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through number lines, arrays, visual models, and more! Multiplication/division will be the MAJOR focus on 2nd quarter. Memorization of facts is not the goal (YET…) rather, I want to ensure students know when and WHY multiplication should be used. There are tons of great resources for this skill- please check some out here in this amazing math review resource organized by skill.
Concepts to review: place value, addition with regrouping, subtraction with borrowing, rounding to the nearest 10 and 100, quadrilateral, parallelogram, trapezoid, rectangle, square, rhombus, arrays, repeated addition, commutative property, number line, product
A year long “Scope and Sequence” which lays out our math curriculum pacing for the year can be found here
