- Tuesday Folders will come home today. Please review work samples with your child.
- Thank you to those who volunteered to be mystery readers next week as we celebrate Read Across America week. If you missed this opportunity but would like to read to our class sometime in the future, please let me know a date that could work for you!
- I hope you will be able to join us for the 3rd grade Children Around the World concert next Wednesday March 4th at 1:00 in the gym. Please be sure you allot ample time to park and checked into the building!
- 5th grade is collecting donations for a student project to benefit homeless in our area. Visit this link to get more information on what is needed to help this cause.
- We have a Camp Flintlock field trip Friday, March 13. This is an ON CAMPUS field trip. If you would like to volunteer to chaperone and help with a station that day, please message me. You would be needed from 9:00-1:30 that day.
- Here is a checklist to help your child have a great experience:
- Check the weather; wear appropriate clothing.
- If the day is expected to be hot then pack a water bottle.
- Have them bring a small bag or backpack to carry items they expect to make and/or purchase

- Discuss what is appropriate for your child to spend at the Camp Store. We have over 100 items (no candy or food). This week in Literacy:
Students will present their planet research project in class this week. Their aliens turned out AWESOME!! Thanks for your assistance with creativity and hot glue:)
Students are reading “Paul Bunyan” this week and will explore the tales of John Henry, Pecos Bill, Annie Oakley, and other legends from tall tales. We will continue to focus on character traits. We are able to make lots of connections with our last story, and focusing again on characters, theme, and even figurative language. word- tall tale
We will also begin learning about a selected country of your child’s choice to use as we compare and contrast NC/USA traditions and culture to those from other parts of the world. If you have a family member for your child to interview, or any momentos from this country please utilize to best help your child (and our class) see new cultures!
This week in Math:
Students are beginning a lengthy, but exciting Fractions unit. Lots of vocab is important in understanding this concept. Here is a parent guide for helping you and your student understand our main learning outcomes
Current vocab: numerator, denominator, unit fraction, partition, number line, visual model
Concepts to review: place value, addition with regrouping, subtraction with borrowing, rounding to the nearest 10 and 100, quadrilateral, parallelogram, trapezoid, rectangle, square, rhombus, arrays, repeated addition, area, perimeter, rectilinear area, commutative property (flip flop rule), number line, product, distributive (break apart method), associative property, graphs, pictographs, bar graphs
Timed multiplication quizzes continue week!! We will take 9’s on Thursday and makeups Tuesday the 25th and on Friday the 28th.
Your child should have an icecream sundae sheet in their agenda to keep track of their successes with these 1 minute timed quizzes. There are 16 questions on each quiz and students pass with a 15/16 or better. If they do NOT pass, there will be a makeup opportunity each Friday during arrival. All quizzes will come home the day they are taken and will be located inside the plastic X sundae page. Please do what you can to help prepare your child for these fun and important assessments!
